Nicole Neuman P.Eng.

President

A Simon Fraser University graduate, Nicole has 25 years experience with materials handling industries and has international expertise in Wound Rotor Induction Motor Resistive Control systems. She is an active member of the engineering community, and now leads our world class team at Synergy with a dedication to growing and diversifying the company’s offerings and strengths through innovation, people, and technology.

Fred Malmberg

Director of Business Development

Fred joined the company over 20 years ago, shortly after graduating from SFU. His initial involvement in design, engineering and start-ups of large crushing and conveying systems increased his exposure to South American mining sector, mainly in Chile. Following years, he spent working and supporting various mines in Chile. Today, he plays a key role in maintaining and growth of South American markets. Fred speaks fluently three languages; English, Swedish and Spanish.

Fred educated in the Faculty of Applied Science, Computing Science at Simon Fraser University.

Kanishka Mawala Gedara

Engineering Manager

Kanishka has over 20 years’ experience in many aspects of the electrical industry, including design, commissioning, project management, Quality Assurance and Quality Control systems. He leads project teams and project engineering activities, along with further enhancements of Synergy Quality Assurance and Quality Control system.

Kanishka holds a Master of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering from the National Technical University "Kharkiv Polytechnic Institute", Ukraine, and specialised in Electrical Systems & Networks. In addition, he obtained the Project Management Professional (PMP) Certificate from the Project Management Institute.

Karl (Peng Kai) Liao P. Eng

Drive Systems Manager

Karl joined Synergy in 2001, and in the last 18 years he has dedicated to develop drive solutions to various challenging applications. He leads functions in the drive system business unit including R&D, proposals, engineering, project management, and commissioning.

Before working for Synergy, he worked 7 years for Samsung in Shenzhen China, leading a team to maintain Robotics, CNC machines and automation of their manufacturing.

Karl holds a Master Degree of Engineering from Southeast University of China; he has been a registered professional engineer in BC since 2003.

Russell Carder

Manager - Instrumentation & Control

Russ has an extensive over 30 years experience in the mining industry. Last 20 years with Synergy as Manager of Instrumentation and Control. Previously, for 13 years, he held Electrical & Process Control Supervisory position at Gibraltar Mines, an open pit mining operation in central BC.

Russ holds a Diploma of Technology in Electrical/Electronics from British Columbia Institute of Technology, (BCIT). In addition, he received a Journeyman Trade Certificate in Industrial Instrumentation from the same institute.

Reza Shah-Abadi

Manager - Mining and Utility Projects

Reza has an wide-ranging experience in Electrical Engineering fields over 24 years in the copper mines, copper production facilities and related utilities including electricity and water supply. For 21 years he had different responsibilities as a designer, supervisor, project manager, superintendent and master plan manager in maintenance department, renovation and expansion projects at large size open-pit copper mines including Sarcheshmeh Copper Complex. In the last 3 years with Synergy, he has done the projects in protection, control, integrated pre-fab electrical building, and field troubleshooting for utility and mining clients.

Reza has earned a bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering – Power from Iran University of Science and Technology (IUST).
